Everyday Missions
Have you ever thought about being a missionary? Living your life in a far off corner of the world, devoted to building relationships and sharing the gospel with orphans, widows and the oppressed? Leading a sacrificial life in the pursuit of helping others? I have met many men and women who live that life. I admire their faith, their love of Jesus and the “all-in” passion for their calling. If it is your call to take the gospel to the ends of the earth, then may God Bless you and lead you.
The reality is most Christians will not embark on a journey taking them across the world to live in a remote village. But that does not mean your dream of being a missionary needs to be tossed away for someone else to follow. The exciting thing is scripture teaches us that all who follow Jesus are missionaries.
One of our core commitments at Central Community Church, is to do our part in fulfilling the Great Commission. We have all been commissioned to go and make disciples; not a select few of us, but every single person who follows Jesus. Jesus’s command is very clear. At CCC we believe that missions is more than what we do, it is how we live. It is how we interact with those people our lives intersect with. This could be a neighbor, a co-worker, a fellow student, the homeless person on the street or the orphan living in a rural village on the other side of the world. It is our prayer this commission would become a pillar in the DNA of Central Community Church.
“You are now entering the mission field!” This pronouncement should dismiss us as we exit our time of worship together. When we drive into our neighborhood, walk into our work space on Monday morning or join our classmates in school, we have entered the mission field. And it can be argued that there is not a mission field anywhere more ripe for harvest. Some of us may get to go to far off lands; however most of us get to be missionary’s right where God has placed us.
Acts 1:8 commands that we are to be Christ’s witnesses “in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” It is not a coincidence that this command starts with being a witness in our own back yard. There will be occasions when you will be challenged to escape your comfort zone to engage in extending the reach of Jesus into our community and world, but until then … Extend your heart right where you are.
