How do we change
Cccseattle

How do we change? The majority of voices suggest that the onus of change is on us. The Bible has a radically different approach: Real lasting change is ultimately about what God does in us.

Jacob is a perfect example of a person who was changed by the grace and power of God. His change began with God appearing to him in a dream and speaking powerful promises into his life (Gen 28). As you consider the places in your life that you hope to change are you remembering the grace and power of God?

Here are a few questions worth asking:

Am I making room for God’s transforming presence in my life? The power of God is so much greater than our own power. How am I leaning into his power above my own, especially in those hard to change places?
Am I teachable? Sometimes the place where we need the most change is also the place we have become the least teachable. Proverbs 9:10 says: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
Am I willing for my change to not just be about me? God changed Jacob from a grasper to a giver, to make Jacob a blessing to others. Sometimes we have to let go of selfishness to embrace the true change God wants to bring to our lives. It’s never just only about us.
God does not expect us to save ourselves, nor does God expect us to change ourselves. Where are you hoping to change, and how might God meet you there?
